Spread 1 of the short booklet entitled "LONG LIVE THE DONG" (pictures of the booklet will be uploaded in Scraps): Sailors.

A project exploring the visual language of sexualized male figures. In other words, men are rarely objectified in a way I'd like to see, and at best the frequency of those types of images is grossly lacking in comparison to images of sexualized women. I think all of deviantArt is a good example of this (protip: enter "nude" in the search field and you'll get what I mean).

It's a feminist art project and totally legitimate; I swear! Here, enjoy some pictures of sexy men (for a change).

Ink, colored pencils, felt pens, and watercolors all compiled in Photoshop (I think of them as analog layers!)

I think its a great concept and the illustrations are done very well as usual.

Good work.

I applaud your skills and knowlege of anatomy, its really hard to get down. But besides the backpatting for your skill, I have to say your project (while not up my ally in any way) is very bold and inspiring.

Its definitely true that women are objectified way more than males are (if at all anymore) especially in America (and the UK to some extent but nothing as "serious" I would say).

Mostly this is because it would seem the general consensus of watchers that are male (or even female at times surprisingly) would brand this work as gay (Ironic that the opposite gender equivalently is accepted by the general public so much more "openly"), and thus being a sort of half half range of audience, you can guess which type of imagery will be shown less and less than the other I guess.

I find it funny though, your work by comparison to the constant adds and imagery used to objectify females is much more tastefully done and artistic by comparison that it almost couldn't even be put in the same category (this isn't a bad thing however, quiet the opposite).

tl;dr version:Excellent work, keep on truckin'.

out of all of these, this one is my favorite! and it was a hard decision, because i loved all of the images you made for this project. your colors are so bright and vivid, which really blows me away from my own experience in scanning in the earthbound sketchbooks!!

but let's see - you compiled all the different layers in photoshop, but you did all those layers by hand? how did that work? (the end result is awesome!!!)

いただきます!
this series is brilliant!
Oh, thanks man. I agree; what bothers me the most is how a lot of women allow female objectification to happen and even encourage it sometimes by saying things like "oh, but the female body is so much more beautiful" because they think of it as some sort of liberating brand of self-esteem. But it's really just playing into a male-dominated visual arts system that already exists.

I can understand if you're not into naked dudes, but I really appreciate that you like my concept!

Well, as to your first comment also, we have to consider this is how its been for centuries, whether we like it or not. Males, by majority for as long as human history can record, by nature has dominated in the war of sexes, and of course this carries over into art and other aspects of life via gender stratification. Personally I have no gender bias over which form is more eloquent than the other (as long as its "fit", no one likes fatty, see theres my bias =P), I prefer to look at women (I have no problem at looking at an artistic form of man since it means nothing else to me other than viewing an art form rather than an object of sexuality(making no difference ether being straight and all :P). I'm sure its the same way for women to a balanced degree, as females would obviously prefer to look at the opposite sex (unless of some other sexual orientation no?).

It takes maturity of mind and soul to understand where we stand as humans in personal expression and culture, especially when it concerns sexuality and that in a stance a few chromosomal differences shouldn't dictate variant treatment . But unfortunately we as a race are still stuck in a very adolescent state with our current standings for one another (by majority at least). All we can do is try and balance out the scales rather than try and tip it to one side or the other, since with the absence of balance invites chaos, but its a long road I think, gotta take steps though!

(Sorry for being so long winded, I love a good conversation on anthropology!)
Good luck with your mission.

These are so fantastic. Pure eye candy and so gorgeously rendered. I love how much life you add by your use of bright reds in the skin.
Shittt I love how you did this. Everything you do is so poster worthy.
